Q5: Do I need a smartphone to use Micron Kit?
Tests are done through our simple-to-use app, which is available for both iOS and Android devices.
Q5: How accurate are Micron Kit tests?
The Micron Kit FEC test is based on the decades-old McMaster FEC procedure used by laboratories. Our method has been streamlined and standardised to produce more repeatable and consistent results than the standard method.
Micron Kit is proficiency tested through VetQAS to the same standard as traditional laboratories.
Our statistical analysis results show that the z-scores from our test results are repeatedly closer to the consensus value within a population of results than many traditional veterinary laboratories. Even with a much faster turnaround time, the Micron Kit doesn’t compromise on accuracy – in fact, we’re setting the standard for what ‘accuracy’ means.
Sample Prep
Q1: How fresh should samples be?
Faecal samples should be no more than two days old. The longer you wait before testing a sample the less likely the parasite eggs will be detected in the test.
Q2: How long does it take to prepare a sample using Micron Kit?
Samples can be prepared anywhere by anyone in under 5 minutes using our user-friendly, streamlined testing preparation procedure.
Q3: Can I prepare another slide while a sample is being analysed?
Yes, this will increase your testing throughput. Additional slides can be purchased directly through your account manager.
Q4: Can I use an electronic centrifuge instead of the manual centrifuge provided with Micron Kit?
Yes, while the manual centrifuge has been designed to enable on-site testing, electronic centrifuges can increase your testing speed and throughput. If you are using an electronic centrifuge, you should centrifuge a sample at 1,500 RPM for 5 minutes.
Electronic centrifuges certified for use with the Micron Kit can be purchased directly through your account manager or local Micron Kit distributor.
Results
Q1: How long do results take to be generated?
Results typically take under 30 minutes to be generated.
Q2: What are coccidia result levels based on?
Light: 30-1,000 OPG
Moderate: 1,000-2,000 OPG
High: 2,000-4,000 OPG
Very High: 4,000 OPG +
Q3: What parasite types does Micron Kit detect?
The Micron Kit worm test is a FEC test (Fecal Egg Count). Micron Kit detects the same worm egg types that a lab FEC would. These are: Strongyle, Nematodirus, Strongyloides, Moniezia, Coccidia and Trichurus.
More information on these parasites can be found on our technology page through: https://micronagritech.com/technology
